ROCK SPRINGS — The arrival of Harbor Freight in Rock Springs is being welcomed by community members.
Harbor Freight, founded in North Hollywood, California, in 1977, will open in November in the Plaza Mall off Dewar Drive.
“It’s another place to visit,” Rock Springs resident Isaac Soto said.
The soft opening will take place Nov. 6 while the grand opening is slated for Nov. 21, but the dates are tentative and may change, Harbor Freight Media Coordinator Lisa Hartley said.
The new business is projected to bring 35 to 40 jobs, she added.
“I think it will be good,” Standard Plumbing Supply/True Value General Manager John Davidson said. “Competition is always good.”
Soto said the increased competition is good for people shopping for prices.
Rock Springs will be the third Wyoming location for the company. Cheyenne and Casper are the others.
“Hopefully it will stay for a while,” Soto said.
He added that it is a good thing to have companies move into the area because it will provide jobs in the community.
The company has 900 stores across the country.
“We’re thrilled to be opening our third Harbor Freight tools store in Wyoming and we’re very pleased by the warm welcome we’ve received in Rock Springs,” Harbor Freight Tools President Eric Smidt said in a statement. “At Harbor Freight, we’re all about delivering high-quality tools at ridiculously low prices. We do it by manufacturing our tools at the same factories as the expensive brands, but we cut out the middle man and pass the savings on to our customers.
“We’ve also invested millions of dollars to build and operate our own state-of-the-art quality test labs to ensure that we’re constantly driving quality at the lowest possible price.
“We invite everyone in the area to visit our new store at 1405 Dewar Drive and see why if you buy tools anywhere else, you’re throwing your money away.”
