SWEETWATER COUNTY — The Rock Springs and Green River chambers of commerce will host the Sweetwater County Leadership Institute 2020 in partnership with Western Wyoming Community College from January to June 2020.
Class size is limited, so enrollment will be based on a first-come, first-served basis.
Attendance at the seven sessions is required for graduation. One excused absence will prior arrangements will be allowed.
Classes will take place at least once per month and begin between 7 and 8 a.m., depending on the session, and agendas could last as late as 5 p.m.
Tuition is $300 per person, which is due prior to the first session. Graduates will assist with the coordination of the 2021 Sweetwater County Leadership Institute.
Course outline:
• Orientation, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at WWCC: Orientation will include training, networking and discussing course objectives and requirements.
• Business and Human Services, Feb. 18: Participants will get acquainted with the business services including the chambers of commerce, Wyoming Business Council, Small Business Development Center and Workforce Services. The class will tour human services such as Southwest Counseling Services and Youth Home Inc.
• Government, March 21: The day will acquaint participants with government entities in Sweetwater County. The class will tour the Rock Springs and Green River city halls, the Sweetwater County Courthouse and other government facilities to see how they work.
• Education, April 21: The day will familiarize participants with Sweetwater County School Districts No. 1 and 2, as well as Western Wyoming Community College. The group will discuss funding, enrollment and other issues with the district superintendents. The day will also include private and parochial education opportunities.
• Health Care, May 19: Participants will get a hands-on look at health care in the United States including tours of both public and private facilities ranging from basic health care to long-term health care.
• Industry, May 5 and June 2 — one day required, the second day optional: On the first day participants will tour the western parts of the county, including the trona mines. The tour will focus on industrial sites east of Rock Springs relative to the energy sector of the economy.
• Cultural and Recreation, June 16: The day will consist of the vast recreational and cultural attractions in the county with visits to several sites throughout Sweetwater County.
• Graduation dinner: The evening will include the presentation of graduation certificates, dinner and a wrap-up.
