CHEYENNE – The University of Wyoming men’s basketball team shot just 23% from the field, or 9 for 39, during a 66-32 loss Sunday morning at South Carolina.

“Credit (to) South Carolina for their type of play, as they are very aggressive and play with great physicality,” Cowboys coach Allen Edwards said. “South Carolina shot the ball very well, better than they have in the past, and they made some shots.”

South Carolina held the Cowboys scoreless for the first 7 minutes of the second half.

The Gamecocks (2-0 overall) made 42.4% of their shots from the floor (25 of 59).

South Carolina outrebounded UW (1-1) 41-21, and held a 26-8 advantage in points in the paint.

Redshirt sophomore guard Hunter Maldonado paced the Cowboys with 10 points. Classmate Hunter Thompson added seven rebounds.

UW hosts Cal State Fullerton at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
