UW’s Contreras wins Mountain West Diver of the Week honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- For the first time this season, redshirt junior Karla Contreras was named Mountain West Conference Diver of the Week. It’s the fifth time in her career she has taken home the honor. Contreras accounted for 18 points in the Cowgirls’ 176.5-123.5 victory over the Northern Colorado Bears. She took both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards during the meet. In the 1-meter, she finished first with a score of 253.35 almost 25 points more than the next competitor. She followed that up with a mark of 244.13 in the 3-meter to win in the event.

The Cowgirls and Cowboys will be back in action this weekend against the DU Relays. The meet is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday in Denver. The Cowgirl divers will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 11, against the Boise State Broncos.
